Charge Smarter, Spend Less: How Advanced Dynamic Load Management Can Cut Your Energy Costs
Your EV charger doesn’t need to use the same amount of power all day. Here’s how setting different power limits for peak and off-peak periods can help reduce your energy costs.
As EV charging becomes part of everyday home energy use, it’s worth looking beyond how much electricity your car consumes. When and how much power you use can also affect what you pay.
That’s particularly relevant in Spain and Italy, where electricity costs and contracted power can vary depending on the tariff and time of day.
With Advanced Dynamic Load Management, Wallbox App users can now set different charging power limits for two periods of the day: Peak and Off-Peak. This gives you more control over how your EV uses your home’s available power – and can help reduce the amount of power you need to contract during more expensive hours.

What’s the difference between Peak and Off-Peak?
Traditional Dynamic Load Management already helps protect your home’s electrical system. It continuously adjusts your EV charger’s power based on your household’s real-time energy consumption, helping prevent your contracted power from being exceeded.
Wallbox’s Advanced Dynamic Load Management feature takes this a step further by letting you set two different power limits depending on the time of day.
The standard periods are:
→ Peak: 08:00–00:00
→ Off-Peak: 00:00–08:00 & all day on weekends
You can therefore set a lower power limit during the day and a higher limit overnight and at weekends, when your electricity costs may be lower.
Why does this matter?
Your EV doesn’t necessarily need to charge at maximum power all the time.
If you’re typically away from home during the day and your car is parked overnight, you can use those longer off-peak hours to do most of your charging. This can allow you to reduce the amount of power you need to contract during peak hours – without giving up the ability to charge your car when you need it.

In other words, you can match your charging power to the way you actually use energy.
A simple change that could save you up to €176 a year
For eligible users, adjusting contracted power between peak and off-peak periods can make a meaningful difference to annual electricity costs.
Based on July 2026 rates, a user in Spain or Italy could save up to €176 per year* by reducing their contracted peak power by 5 kW.
The potential saving comes from avoiding the cost of maintaining a higher contracted power level throughout the more expensive daytime period, while retaining greater capacity during off-peak hours when charging can take place.
That means a smarter charging setup can do more than manage your home’s available power. It can help reduce the cost of the energy contract itself.
How it works in practice
Imagine you currently have a high contracted power level because you need enough capacity to cover your home and EV during the day.
With Advanced Dynamic Load Management, you could:
- Set a lower limit for Peak hours
From 08:00 to 00:00, your charger respects the lower power limit you’ve configured. - Increase the limit during Off-Peak hours
From 00:00 to 08:00 and throughout the weekend, your charger can use a higher power limit. - Let your charging schedule do the rest
Your EV can take advantage of the longer off-peak window, while your home avoids carrying unnecessary contracted power during peak hours.
And because the settings are available directly in the Wallbox App, you can manage your Peak and Off-Peak limits alongside your other charging settings.
Smarter EV charging starts at home
As EVs become more integrated into the home energy ecosystem, smart charging is about understanding how much power you need, when you need it, and what that power costs.
Wallbox’s Pulsar Max, our most advanced home charger, is designed to make home charging easier. Combined with our latest Advanced Dynamic Load Management feature in the Wallbox App, it gives EV drivers more control over how their charger fits into their home’s energy use.

For some households, that could mean saving up to €176 a year* while still having the charging capacity they need.
And for installers, Advanced DLM offers another way to help customers optimise their charging setup.

*SPAIN DISCLAIMER: Estimated annual savings of up to €176 are calculated based on Spain’s regulated market rates (PVPC) as of July 2026 for the 2.0TD tariff, assuming a 5 kW reduction in peak daytime contracted power. This calculation includes the Special Electricity Tax (5.11%) and standard VAT (21%). Actual savings will vary depending on your electricity provider (regulated or free market), your current contract terms, and any future regulatory, tax, or electricity price changes. This estimate does not include the one-time regulated distributor fee required to modify contracted power. Please review your recent electricity bills or consult your electricity provider to estimate your individual savings potential.
*ITALY DISCLAIMER: Estimated annual savings of up to €176 are calculated based on the applicable Italian electricity market conditions as of July 2026, assuming a 5 kW reduction in contracted power. This calculation includes standard Italian VAT (22%) and applicable taxes and charges. Actual savings will vary depending on your electricity provider, tariff, current contract terms, and any future regulatory, tax, or electricity price changes. This estimate does not include any one-time fees that may apply to changes in contracted power.
